This traditional, small-holder’s cottage is situated in the core of the “Green Heart of Italy”,
snugly sheltered amongst the folds of hills and surrounded by woodland. It is the perfect base for a
self-catering holiday exploring the Umbrian countryside, Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding medieval towns and
villages with their magnificent art and architecture.
Stray into Tuscany too, if the famous sites of Florence or Siena persuade you.
Fall asleep to the sound of cicadas, and wake to bird song and the hum of bees, and perhaps to the low, rhythmic clang of a solitary horse bell.
This is a simple, rustic cottage offering accommodation on the first floor. The accommodation sleeps 4 in two bedrooms - one large double and one twin bedroom – with views over olive groves and deciduous woodland. The roomy kitchen with open log fire gives ample living space, furnished with traditional chestnut furniture, and modern electric oven, gas hob and washing machine. The loggia provides a shaded outside area on which to sit and linger at any time of day – watch the morning mists, and the sun rising over the hill as you eat your breakfast, or the swallows swooping overhead as you sip a glass of chilled wine.
Although the property does not have its own swimming pool, there is an excellent swimming complex in nearby Tavernelle which provides convenient fun for the whole family including water flumes, diving boards and large tots fun pool.
Porta Materna is around 2 km from the small hamlet of Colle San Paolo, and about 10 km from the town of Tavernelle with its shops and banks. You will need a car to reach and enjoy this property.
